The West Elk Patriots hosted CedarVale/Dexter last Friday where the Patriots walked away with both wins.
In what was set to be a marquee Tri-Valley League (TVL) game between two league frontrunners, the Eureka Lady Tornadoes defeated the Cherryvale Chargers 73-65 on the road on Thursday, Feb. 15. Junior Laynie Winfrey put on quite the show with a double-double performance and a layup that sent the two teams into overtime so Eureka could secure another league victory and their seventh consecutive league title.
Tornado freshman Mason Hughes claimed a fourth place finish at the Eureka 3-1A Regional Wrestling tournament last Saturday and punched his first ticket to the state tournament this Thursday-Saturday, in Salina.
A total of 18 Elk County Wrestling (ECW) club members claimed hardware at the Fredonia Open/Novice/Girls tournament on Sunday, Feb. 18.
West Elk Patriot basketball competed at Flinthills last Tuesday, Feb. 13 going head-to-head with the Mustangs.
The West Elk Patriots will be represented at their first girls state wrestling tournament as Lady Patriot senior Kayla Wright etched her name in history and punched her ticket to the 4-1A State Wrestling tournament next week in Salina. This will be Wright’s first state appearance.
In a start to finish dominating performance, the Eureka Lady Tornadoes took down the Council Grove Braves on their home court on Tuesday, Feb. 6. The Lady Tornadoes controlled the game from start to finish, getting a 38-19 lead at halftime that rolled into their 64-30 victory.
On Monday, Feb. 5, the Eureka Lady Tornadoes took on the Fredonia Yellowjackets for the second time this season. In commanding fashion, the Tornadoes claimed a 74-34 victory over the Yellowjackets.
The Eureka High School boys played the Bluestem Lions on the road to close out the week. The Tornadoes won this game 50-47. The Tornadoes started the game hot, building up a 15-point lead at halftime. The Tornadoes let the Lions back in the game with some cold shooting in the third quarter, combined with the Lions getting hot outside the arc. The Lions continued their hot shooting in the final frame, but the Tornadoes were able to find the basket again as well, gutting out the three-point victory.
