The Monday, May 13 Madison/Virgil USD 386 Board of Education meeting was called to order by President Dallas Luthi at 7:01 p.m. Roll call was answered by Jennifer Watts, Dallas Luthi, Ty Gaines, Justin Isch, Gary Kile, Amy Hind and Jannette Luthi. Also attending were Superintendent Tammy Baird, Kristy Johnson, Amanda Schild, Dacia Brandt, Jenn Boles and Lily Hudson. Marcie Harrison joined the meeting at 7:15 p.m. Mark Adams joined at 7:30 p.m.

Author With Eureka Ties To Be At The Eureka Public Library

Former Eureka resident Eric Reynolds will be at the Eureka Public Library at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, to talk about his latest book, The Lost Town of Garrison. The book is based on historic events and describes the fight to save towns that would be flooded and lost to build a reservoir. Reynolds has written several other books including The Legend of Mulberry School; The Artifacts: A Flint Hills Story and The Road to Sugar Loaf. Reynolds lived in Eureka in the 1960s and 1970s and attended Eureka schools. He will have copies of his latest book available for purchase. Four-Day Jury Trial Returned Not Guilty Verdict For Wallace

Tears of relief came over William D. “Bill” Wallace’s oldest daughter and mother as a “Not Guilty” verdict was read by Judge Jan Satterfield and Wallace pointed to the sky, last Friday, May 25. The not guilty verdict came after three full days of testimony were delivered during the jury trial where Wallace appeared before Judge Satterfield for two counts; Count 1 Rape, offender 18 or older and victim less than 14 years of age and Count 2, Aggravated criminal sodomy, offender 18 or older and child less than 14. Both counts are off-grid person felonies. The second count was dismissed before the closing statements and jury instructions were provided.
