The Eureka Tornado High School volleyball team traveled to Marion on Saturday, Sept. 21, for the 18th annual Marion Spikefest. Eureka, seeded sixth, first competed in pool play against Moundridge, Berean Academy and Douglass. The Tornadoes went 1-2, falling to Berean, 7-25 and 11-25 and Moundridge, 21-25 and 8-25. Eureka defeated Douglass, 25-18 and 25-23.
The Tornadoes then faced Central Christian for the fifth place match, with Eureka falling 1325 and 16-25.
Eureka tallied 12 ace serves, 39 kills, 37 assists and 104 digs for the weekend.
Halstead went undefeated at the tournament to claim first place. They defeated Berean, 25-16 and 25-9 in the semi-finals and Moundridge 25-23 and 25-19 in the final match. Marion was third, defeating Berean, 24-26, 26-28 and 25-22.
