The seventh and eighth rodeos of the Top Hand Youth Rodeo Association (THYRA) series were held September 9 and 10 at the Eureka Saddle Club Arena. Over 70 youth from southeast Kansas competed in various rodeo events including roping, chute dogging, rough stock and timed events.
Eureka Tornado football hosted their second game of the season and came away with a 12-6 victory last Friday.
The Eureka Junior High Tornadoes football team opened their season with a 42-0 loss to the Caney Bullpups. The score reflected the youth and inexperience of the Tornado squad, which starts several 7th graders due to low numbers of 8th grade athletes.
The Madison Bulldog football team took care of business in the first half Friday night, against Hartford, winning the season opener 46-0, at half-time.
The Tornadoes fought hard in their 2023 debut, their passion and effort was on full display but came up short, 8-12, to Cherryvale.
The Lady Tornadoes high school volleyball team opened their season last week; first traveling to Southern Coffey County (SCC) High School on Tuesday and Conway Springs on Thursday.
The Lady Tornado golf team began their season on Monday, August 28 with a first place finish at the Fort Scott junior varsity tournament.
The Eureka Saddle Club held their fourth Shodeo for 2023 on Saturday, August 26, at 5 p.m.
Members of the Eureka Tornado junior high and high school cross country opened their season last Thursday in Clearwater, where several Tornadoes claimed hardware.
