The Lady Tornadoes high school volleyball team opened their season last week; first traveling to Southern Coffey County (SCC) High School on Tuesday and Conway Springs on Thursday.
At SCC
After losing the first set to SCC 25-11, the Tornadoes were able to bounce back in the next two sets to pull off wins defeating SCC 25-17 and 25-18. Eureka tallied 12 kills, with four each from Madelyn Miller, Hannah Perrier and Laynie Winfrey; 3 blocks; Perrier 2 and Brooklyn Ogden 1; 11 assists, Kimber Ptacek 8 and Raylee Boles, Miller and Alaina Westerman all with 1; and 48 digs: Trinity Samuels 15, Aven Sanchez 13, Boles 6, Miller, Ogden and Winfrey all with 3, Lydia Mason and Westerman each with 2 and Perrier 1. Scoring for Eureka were Ptacek and Winfrey each with 10, Boles and Westerman each with 8, Sanchez 7 and Samuels 5.
The varsity ladies came up short against Olpe, losing 11-25 and 13-25. Scoring points for the Tornadoes were Ptacek, Sanchez and Westerman all with 1. As a team, the Tornadoes recorded 6 kills, 2 blocks, 3 assists and 35 digs.
The junior varsity played SCC and Olpe for two sets to 15, with the Tornadoes defeating SCC 15-5 in both sets and splitting with Olpe, 16-11 and 15-14.
At Conway Springs
The Lady Tornadoes went 0-3 at Conway Springs falling to Flinthills, 17-25 and 14-25; falling to Remington, 1425 and 17-25 and Conway Springs, 25-21, 14-25 and 15-25.
Against Flinthills, the Lady Tornadoes tallied 12 kills, 7 blocks, 12 assists and 50 digs.
Against Remington, Eureka recorded 9 kills, 6 blocks, 7 assists and 34 digs.
Against Conway Springs, the Lady Tornadoes recorded 17 kills. 2 blocks, 16 assists and 62 digs.
The junior varsity girls defeated Remington in two games 25-17 and 2522 but lost to Conway Springs 17-25 and 16-25.

The Lady Tornadoes were scheduled to host their first home triangular on Tuesday of this week, with C&D teams battling Marion at home on Thursday, September 7. Eureka will host their annual tournament this Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. Eureka will then travel to Marion on Saturday, September 16, at 9a.m.
