Tornado Football Fell In Season Opener

The Eureka Junior High Tornadoes football team opened their season with a 42-0 loss to the Caney Bullpups. The score reflected the youth and inexperience of the Tornado squad, which starts several 7th graders due to low numbers of 8th grade athletes.

The Eureka Junior High Tornadoes football team opened their season with a 42-0 loss to the Caney Bullpups. The score reflected the youth and inexperience of the Tornado squad, which starts several 7th graders due to low numbers of 8th grade athletes.

The Tornadoes kicked off to open the game and Caney scored on the ensuing possession by running over the Tornado line. Caney held the Tornadoes on their possessions, forcing them to either turn the ball over on downs or forcing a turnover. They then scored touchdowns on four of their next five possessions, including a 40-yard run on a 4 th and 11 play in the second quarter.

The young Tornadoes will recover from this thumping with a greater understanding of the physicality of TVL football, as well as valuable experience.

The Eureka Junior High volleyball team also faced the Bullpups last Thursday. Results were unavailable at the time of publication.

Eureka will continue the season next Thursday at Fredonia; volleyball at 4 p.m.; football at 6 p.m.
