Last week, the Kansas High School Activities Association announced the 2024 and 2025 Football District Assignments.
The Eureka Junior High Tornado football team finished their home schedule with an 8-46 loss to the Cherryvale Chargers. The Tornadoes went into the game knowing this would be a major challenge as Cherryvale was undefeated and had an average margin of victory over their opponents of over 40 points. Knowing this didn’t help; however, as the bigger and much faster Chargers dominated the game.
The Eureka Tornado cross country team hosted their annual invitational last Wednesday, at the Eureka Country Club.
The Eureka Tornadoes fell to Pomona-West Franklin, 6-42. Eureka will host Council Grove this Friday, for Parent’s Night. The Tiny Tornadoes will also perform.
On September 15, a total of six teams gathered at Eureka City Park for a round-robin style softball tournament, hosted by Warhorse Petroleum. The tournament began at 8 a.m. and moved into bracket play at 4:30 p.m., with the tournament concluding at 12:30 a.m.
Fresh air and sunshine can do wonders for the body and even the soul. People realize this, which is why outdoor activity is encouraged; staying indoors all the time can quickly sap energy levels and diminish mood.
The Eureka Tornado junior high volleyball team hosted the Bluestreaks of Neodesha last Thursday, where the Tornadoes went 0-4.
Seventeen awards, including one Top Shot in the compound division, were acquired by Greenwood County 4-H archers over the weekend as 10 local archers traveled to Wakarusa on Saturday, September 30 for the 2023 4-H State competition.
The Kansas High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) announced post season play locations last week. The following are locations for area teams: 3-1A Golf The Eureka Lady Tornadoes will compete at the Girard Regional on Monday, October 9. Tee time will be at 9 a.m. Teams competing at the regional include: Baxter Springs, Caney Valley, Cheney, Columbus, Erie, Eureka, Fredonia, Frontenac, Galena, Girard, Kingman, Medicine Lodge, Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan, Uniontown, Wichita Collegiate and Wichita- Trinity Academy.
