Eureka Tornadoes

Sport: Boys Basketball Head Coach: Al Brown 1st Year Assistant Coach: Pat Patterson The Eureka Tornado boys basketball team is looking to improve this year, with first year head coach Al Brown. Eureka has four returning letter winners with seniors Cole Adkins and Lyle Perrier, junior Laken Valentine and sophomore TJ Mills. Eureka finished the 2022-23 season with a 3-18 overall record.Also participating for the Tornadoes are: senior: Jace Nixon; junior:Tanner Biering; sophomores:Timothy Aguilar, Nate Clark, Davian Damron, Jean-Phillippe Guillaume, Kaleb Hollis, Ben Ketcham, Lane Ledford, Cole Ptacek and Jonah Werner; and freshmen: Tyson Coon, Kotah Davis, Luc Guillaume, Easton Mead,Tristan Milner and Cooper Roberson.

Goal for this year’s season: Improve each game. Be competitive throughout the season. Play hard and work together as a team. Learn and grow from all situation on and off the court.

Sport: Girls Basketball Head Coach: Shelly Hoyt, 7th Year at Eureka; 31st overall Assistant Coach: Brendan Ptacek, 7th year The Lady Tornado basketball team finished last year’s season with a 21-3 overall record and were undefeated in the Tri-Valley League.The Lady Tornadoes concluded last year’s season in the first round of 3A State Tournament play. Eureka has three returning letter winners, juniors Kimber Ptacek and sophomores Brenna Rucker and Britta Mongeau. Also representing the Tornadoes are junior Laynie Winfrey; sophomores Lydia Mason, Madelyne Miller, Alaina Westerman and Hannah Perrier; and freshmen Ellianna Coulter and Elaina Osborne.

Goal for this year’s season: “ We are young and inexperienced but our high expectations won’t change. Our players are eager to learn, build their experience, and have great enthusiasm for our team,” stated Coach Hoyt.

Sport: Boys Wrestling Head Coach:Thomas Lowe, 2nd Year Assistant Coach(es): Kylie Ashlock and Glenn Bechtel The Eureka Tornado boys wrestling team brings 15 wrestlers heading to the mat. Representing Eureka are: seniors Trayton Carl Biering, Gabe Fansler, Paiton Gravatt and Asher Kern; juniors: Dalton Pool, Kadin DeShane and Ethan Bauer; sophomores: Braden Grimmett, Gauge Lopez, Landon Kern and Jacobi Turner; and freshmen: Mason Hughes, Cruz Escareno, Jakob Pool and Ashton Fansler. “We are a younger and inexperienced group looking to get better everyday to build for the future,” stated Coach Lowe.

Sport: Girls Wrestling Head Coach:Thomas Lowe, 2nd Year Assistant Coach(es): Kylie Ashlock and Glenn Bechtel Eureka returns three state qualifiers and one state placer for the 2023-24 season, with LadyTornado seniors Lyndsey Escareno, Makyla Gore and Brenn Hilton. Lady Tornado Escareno has made three state appearances and has claimed a state medal each year. She placed fourth last year in the 140-pound weight class, fourth during her sophomore year and sixth during her freshman year, both in the 143-pound weight class. Hilton qualified her sophomore and junior years and Gore qualified during her sophomore year. Others representing Eureka include: sophomores Harlie Owings and Victoria Grado and freshmen Maela Neill and Stacy Alford.

“We have a good mix of upper and lower classmen.This mix should help keep the run of good years going for Lady Tornado Wrestling,” stated Coach Lowe.
