The Kansas 4-H National Meat Judging Team captured the National Championship at the American Royal National 4-H Meat Judging competition held October 17, at Kansas State University (KSU). This is the second consecutive National Championship for the Kansas 4-H Meat Judging Team. Members of the team included Greenwood County’s own Brooke Gaines; along with Aaron Morales, West Plains District; Brady Hoffman and Tanner Hommertzheim, Sedgwick County; and Callen Smith, Barber County.

Three Greenwood County runners set personal records (PR) last Saturday as they competed at Regional contests and punched their tickets to state.

The Greenwood County School Supply Drive Committee met on October 11. Committee members - Deina Rockhill, Donna Whitehead, Emily Hansel and Tracy McCoy, reviewed and discussed the event which took place on August 6, at the Methodist Church in Eureka. At this event, Greenwood County students were supplied with most of the school supplies needed to start the school year. A free lunch was also provided by the Methodist Church women. The committee reviewed the processes that went well during the event and what processes need “a little fine tuning” for next year. Brainstorming for fundraising ideas and ways to raise other donations were also discussed. The committee’s mission is to help ensure students have the school supplies needed for the best possible start to a successful school year.

The Eureka Garden Club met October 6 at 11:30 a.m. at the Eureka Country Club.

She was born on July 10, 1933, in Eureka, Kansas, to her proud parents, Clinton and Cathrine Barrier. Evelyn's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to family, her strong work ethic, and her generous spirit.

Aletha I. Cannon, 91, of Ponca City, Okla., left this life on October 7, 2023. No viewing is planned. A Graveside Ceremony was held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 13, 2023, at Kaw City Cemetery.
