The crucifixion of Christ 2024 years ago will be remembered during Holy Week with special services being observed by the local churches. Easter is Sunday, March 31.
The Eureka Herald contacted local pastors and their churches to provide the following information on services and other happenings scheduled for this special season.
*The Ministerial Alliance’s community Good Friday service will be held at the Christ Lutheran Church, Friday, March 29 at 12 p.m.
Christ Lutheran Church 315 N. Elm, Eureka and Upper Fall River
March 24 – The Palm Sunday service at Christ Lutheran Church (CLC) will begin at 10:30 a.m. and Easter Sunday service will begin at 10:30 on March 31 at the CLC.
March 31 - A SonRise service will be held at Upper Fall River, beginning at 7 a.m.
Eureka UMC

Eureka UMC will hold its Palm Sunday service March 24 at 9:30 a.m. Maundy Thursday service will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 28. Sunrise service will be held at 6:30 a.m. at Eureka Lake: Larry Brock Memorial Shelter. Easter morning worship will begin at 9:30 a.m.
County Catholic Churches Eureka Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hamilton St. John Catholic Church and Madison St.Teresa of Avila Palm Sunday services will be held: Saturday, March 23, in Hamilton, beginning at 4 p.m.; Sunday, March 24, in Madison, beginning at 8 a.m. and Sunday, March 24, in Eureka, beginning at 11 a.m.
Holy Thursday will be held March 28 in Eureka at 7 p.m. A Good Friday service will be held March 29 at Madison, beginning at 7 p.m.
Saturday, March 30 (Easter Vigil Mass) at Sacred Heart in Eureka, beginning at 8 p.m.
Easter Sunday (Sunday, March 31): Sunrise service, St. John, Hamilton at 6 a.m.; St. Teresa of Avila, Madison at 8 a.m. and Sacred Heart, Eureka at 10 a.m.
Hamilton Community Fellowship 214 E. Main Street, Hamilton
Good Friday service will be held March 29 at 7 a.m.
Jefferson Street Baptist Church 300 S. Jefferson Street
Jefferson Street Baptist Church will hold its Psalm Sunday service this Sunday, March 24 at 10:45 a.m., Lord’s Supper Maundy Thursday service at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 28. Easter Morning Worship will be held on Sunday, March 31 at 10:45 a.m.
Neal Evangelical Free Church
(located on Highway 54 and Neal) Neal Evangelical Free Church invites all to join them as they honor the Resurrection of Jesus Christ through the following services and events: Thursday, March 21, all are invited to join the congregation for participation in Jewish Seder at 6:30 p.m. A representative from Chosen People Ministries will lead the Passover celebration. Learn how the various parts of the Passover meal reveal the true Messiah. The church asks that those wishing to attend please call 620-5832109 to reserve a place at the table.
Sunday, March 24, Palm Sunday: Services begin at 10 a.m. and will feature the “Procession of the Palms.” The morning will begin with a time of worship for children. All children, no matter their age, are welcome to participate in the Procession with live palm branches.
Friday, March 29, Good Friday Service: A Good Friday service entitled, “We Remember,” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Come share this time to commemorate the death and burial of our Lord with song, the Word and Communion.
Sunday, March 31, Easter Sunday: Sunrise service will begin at 7 a.m., entitled, “He Is Risen, He Is Risen, Indeed,” at the Cross on the Neal Church grounds. Easter breakfast will immediately follow and will be served in the Church basement. Easter worship service will be held at 10 a.m. The congregation will celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus with the presentation: “The Songs of Easter,” including music and a message from the Word of God. Please note, no Sunday School classes will be held on Easter Sunday.
Piedmont UMC 80 J Road, Piedmont
The Piedmont United Methodist Church will hold a Lenten Soup and Service, March 24 at 5 p.m.
Reece Christian Church 1303 E. 40 Road
The Reece Christian Church will hold a Sunrise service at 7 a.m., behind the fire station next to the Reece school house on Sunday, March 31, with breakfast at the church following the service. Easter service will be held at the church at 11 a.m.
