February 14, better known as Valentine’s Day, provides a beacon of light in the middle of winter. Each February, stores and homes are decked out in red and pink hearts, and florists wait in the wings to prepare sweet-smelling bouquets for the bevy of buyers eager to bring bountiful blooms into their living spaces.
It has really been quite noisy in the southeast corner of town lately. Coyotes howling at night, cacophony of crows every morning, geese flying over every direction and the jets flying practice runs.
Last week, the Junior High Tornado basketball teams competed in the Junior High Tri-Valley League (TVL) tournament.
On Thursday, Feb. 1, WELCA met at the Eureka Christ Lutheran Church Bell Tower Room and began the new year. Joni Booth called the meeting to order and Margaret Spires gave devotions, “Knowing God,” using Psalm 96.

Bulldog basketball traveled to Mission Valley last Tuesday, Jan. 30 where Madison split with the Vikings.
The Eureka High School boys basketball team played the Neodesha Bluestreaks to close out last week.
On Friday, Feb. 2, the Eureka Lady Tornadoes faced the Neodesha Bluestreaks on the road.
The West Elk Patriots traveled to Sedan last Tuesday, Jan. 30 where both teams walked away with wins.
