Approximately $342,000 In Scholarships Presented At EHS Senior Day
Eureka High School Class Of 2024

Just over $342,000 was awarded in local scholarships last Friday, May 10, during the annual Eureka Junior/Senior High School (EJSHS) Senior Day assembly.

Area businesses, organizations and individuals awarded community scholarships, ranging from $50 to $30,000, to assist in furthering the education of graduating class members.

Ushering in the senior class were EJSHS juniors Kimber Ptacek and Laken Valentine.

STUCO president Lyle Perrier led the flag salute. Senior class President Colby Altis gave the opening address.

The Pop Chorale, accompanied by Emily Erasmus, sang “Keep Holding On” arranged by Mac Huff, followed by the EJSHS band playing “Dancing Queen” arranged by Michael Brown.

Senior class president Altis handed down the colors to the junior class President Ptacek.

Principal Angie Lowe recognized the class Valedictorian Lyle Perrier and Salutorians Makyla Gore and Banff Perkins (see related story elsewhere in this issue).

The presentation of scholarships were as follows: Betty Makemson Memorial, presented by Tyson Rucker, in the amount of $300, awarded to Annaliese Casper.

Home Bank & Trust, presented by Tyson Rucker, in the amount of $200, awarded to Trayton Biering, Reese Birkholz, Bailey Brewer, Marcus Britain, Sylvie Frakes, Dayne Gulick, Brenn Hilton, Brilee Marlar, Katie Morris, Jace Nixon, Lyle Perrier and Kate Tourelle.

W.B. Smethers Trust, presented by Tyson Rucker, in the amount of $1,200, awarded to Abigail Altis, Reese Birkholz, Banff Perkins, Wylee Boulanger and Lyndsey Escareno.

Babson Foundation Scholarship, presented by Steve Spore and Tammi Burtin, $3,750 for four-year colleges renewable for four years or $2,500 per semester for two-year colleges renewable for two years, awarded to Lyle Perrier, Makyla Gore, Banff Perkins, Annaliese Casper, Abigail Altis, Katie Morris, Cole Adkins, Wylee Boulanger and Lyndsey Escareno.

Greenwood County Shriners 3-Wheelers of Midian Shrine, presented by Jeff Sowder, in the amount of $250, awarded to Cole Adkins and Wylee Boulanger.

Community National Bank and Trust/Butler Community College Scholarship, presented by Lisa McDonald, in the amount of $500, awarded to Sylvie Frakes.

Richard L. Howard Scholarship, presented by Loria Howard and Janell Castle, in the amount of $300, awarded to Lyndsey Escareno.

Greenwood County Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship, presented by Jared Seeley, in the amount of $500, awarded to Lyle Perrier and Sylvie Frakes.

Eureka Archery Club/ Lloyd Leitzel Memorial, presented by Donna Geary, in the amoung of $1,400 awarded to Wylee Boulanger; and in the amount of $100, awarded to Paiton Gravatt.

EHS Alumni Scholarship, presented by Donelda Perkins, in the amount of $400, awarded to Banff Perkins, Wylee Boulanger, Cole Adkins, Makayla Boyer, Lyndsey Escareno, Reganne Smalley and Tiya Watts.

Don Huntington Memorial, presented by Donelda Perkins, in the amount of $800, Lyle Perrier and Banff Perkins.

Dale Dennis Excellence in Education Award, in the amount of $300, awarded to Lyle Perrier.

Frank & Jo Ann Williams and Donna Jo Nuessen Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $250, awarded to Sylvie Frakes.

Ghyneth Burcham Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $200, awarded to Wylee Boulanger.

Jean Grundy Scholarship, in the amount of $300, awarded to Katie Morris.

John May, in the amount of $250, awarded to Marcus Britain.

Kansas Governor’s Scholar Award presented to Lyle Perrier.

The Kansas Board of Regents recognition of students having completed the regents recommended curriculum, (4 units of English, 4 units of Mathematics, 3 units of Science, 3 units of Social Science and 2 units of Foreign Language): Cole Adkins, Makyla Gore, Banff Perkins, Lyle Perrier and Cayden Wesley.

Designated Kansas State Scholars: Makyla Gore, Banff Perkins and Lyle Perrier.

Tri-Valley League-Recognition of outstanding ACT scores: Lyle Perrier - Gold; Banff Perkins - Silver; and Makyla Gore - Bronze.

Future Plans

EJSHS Guidance counselor Anna Noble shared the following plans for each member of the graduating class, as well as college-specific and private scholarships, as provided to her prior to last Friday’s Senior Day event.

They were as follows:

Cole Adkins

Cole Adkins will be attending Barton Community College in the pre-dental program to then transfer to Kansas State University (KSU). He also received a Barton Bound scholarship, which will cover books and tuition for six semesters.

Abigail Altis

Abigail Altis will be attending Butler Community College to pursue an Associate Degree in Radiography.

Colby Altis

Colby Altis will be Attending Missouri Welding Institute (MWI) to pursue a certificate in welding.

Trayton Carl Biering

Trayton Carl Biering will be attending Wichita State University (WSU) to pursue a degree in Culinary Arts.

Reese Birkholz

Reese Birkholz will be attending WSU to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology with a minor through WSU Tech in aviation. She also received a $6,000 merit scholarship, based on GPA (over the course of four years).

Wylee Boulanger

Wylee Boulanger will be attending MWI to earn certifications in welding. He also received an $11,450 tuition scholarship from MWI.

Makayla Boyer

Makayla Boyer will be attending WSU to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice. She also received a $1,500 freshman academic scholarship, from WSU.

Bailey Brewer

Bailey Brewer will be attending WSU, currently undecided. She also received a $10,910 Kansas Hero’s Scholarship, $2,000 Kansas Comprehensive Grant, $1,000 WSU Academic Scholarship x2, $1,000 Kansas Shocker Promise scholarship and a $10,000 Shocker Promise Housing scholarship.

Marcus Britain

Marcus Britain will be attending Butler Community College to pursue a degree in Foreign Language/ Spanish.

Annaliese Casper

Annaliese Casper will be attending WSU to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in Aviation through WSU Tech. She also received a $6,000 merit scholarship, based on GPA, over the course of four years.

Tayton Campos

Tayton Campos will be attending The University of Kansas (KU), currently undecided.

Kyler Davis

Kyler Davis will be entering the workforce with Textron Aviation.

Lyndsey Escareno

Lyndsey Escareno will be attending Washburn University to pursue a degree in Radiology Technology. She also received a $5,000 merit scholarship.

Gabriel Fansler

Gabriel Fansler will enter the workforce as a trainer for a Boy Scout Camp in Oklahoma.

Mercedes Fisher

Mercedes Fisher will enter the work force.

Sylvie Frakes

Sylvie Frakes will be attending Butler Community College to pursue an Applied Science Business Degree.

Makyla Gore

Makyla Gore will be attending KSU to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Spanish. She also received a $16,000 Royal Purple Scholarship (over four years) and an $8,000 KSU engineering scholarship (over four years).

Paiton Gravatt

Paiton Gravatt will be attending Flint Hills Tech College (FHTC) to complete his certification in Welding.

Dayne Gulick

Dayne Gulick will be attending Butler Community College to pursue his welding certification.

Skylar Guy

Skylar Guy will be attending Neosho Community College to pursue an Associate Degree in Business.

Caleb Hamilton

Caleb Hamilton will enter the workforce.

Zachary Heaton

Zachary Heaton will be attending Southern New Hampshire University to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations.

Brenn Hilton

Brenn Hilton will be attending KSU to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science. She also received a $1,500 scholarship.

Byron Johnson

Byron Johnson plans to pursue a career as an electrician.

Asher Kern

Asher Kern will be attending FHTC to pursue an Associate Degree in Power Plant Technology and Engineering.

Dixie Ledford

Dixie Ledford will be attending Pittsburg State University to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Minor in Music.

Brilee Marlar

Brilee Marlar will be attending Butler Community College to pursue a degree in nursing while earning a minor in Spanish.

Katie Morris

Katie Morris will be attending Butler Community College to pursue an Associate Degree in Early Elementary Education.

Jace Nixon

Jace Nixon will be attending Coffeyville Community College (CCC) to pursue an Associate Degree in Carpentry. He also received a CCC Esports scholarship for books and tuition.

Banff Perkins

Banff Perkins will be attending KU to pursue a degree in Journalism accompanied by a double minor in business and photojournalism. She also received a traditions merit scholarship and the John P. Kaiser scholarship from KU, which will cover her full cost of attendance.

Lyle Perrier

Lyle Perrier will be attending KSU to pursue a degree in Animal Science and Industry. He also received a $22,000 university scholarship from KSU.

Kiera Pool

Kiera Pool will be attending WSU Tech to pursue a degree in Nursing.

Gabby Randall

Gabby Randall will be attending Eric Fisher Academy to pursue a cosmetology license.

Dominic Samuels

Dominic Samuels will be attending FHTC to pursue a degree in Business.

Logan Scott

Logan Scott will enter the workforce.

Reganne Smalley

Reganne Smalley will be attending Eric Fisher Academy to pursue a career in Cosmetology.

SmittyWayne Smith

SmittyWayne Smith plans to enter the workforce as a school custodian.

Nathan Taylor

Nathan Taylor will enter the workforce.

Kate Tourelle

Kate Tourelle will be attending WSU Tech to pursue a nursing degree.

Tiya Watts will be attending Eric Fisher Academy to pursue a career in Cosmetology.

Cayden Wesley will be attending Butler Community College to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice.
