The Verdigris Valley Foundation will be serving a biscuit and gravy breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 17 at the Madison Sauder Center from 8 to 10 a.m. Proceeds from this event support the operation of the Center and projects for the community.
Greenwood County Hospital (GWCH) Auxiliary met for their monthly meeting on Feb. 5 at the GWCH basement.
The West Elk Patriots will be represented at their first girls state wrestling tournament as Lady Patriot senior Kayla Wright etched her name in history and punched her ticket to the 4-1A State Wrestling tournament next week in Salina. This will be Wright’s first state appearance.
The Eureka High School boys played the Bluestem Lions on the road to close out the week. The Tornadoes won this game 50-47. The Tornadoes started the game hot, building up a 15-point lead at halftime. The Tornadoes let the Lions back in the game with some cold shooting in the third quarter, combined with the Lions getting hot outside the arc. The Lions continued their hot shooting in the final frame, but the Tornadoes were able to find the basket again as well, gutting out the three-point victory.
The Eureka Lady Tornadoes traveled for another TVL matchup on Friday, Feb. 9, pounding the Lions of Bluestem, 63-34.
The Eureka High School boys lost two games to begin the week, at Fredonia on Monday and against Council Grove at home on Tuesday. Both games were much the same story as previous Tornado efforts: poor shooting combined with early turnovers led to large first half deficits that the Tornadoes were unable to overcome.
Bulldog basketball traveled to West Franklin Tuesday, Feb. 6 where varsity teams went 1-1 with the Falcons.
