-Benjamin Franklin Greetings! I’m Derek Haines, the current Watershed Coordinator for Toronto and Fall River reservoirs. I wanted to introduce myself and my organization to inform you about resources available to everyone within the Toronto and Fall River watersheds.
The 21st Annual Fall River Rendezvous will recognize National Public Lands Day. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 30 at Fall River State Park in the Fredonia Bay Area from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Following multiple delays, crews were to break ground on the construction of the new city water plant in Severy on Monday of this week. During their most recent council meeting, Mike Younger, project engineer with Evans, Bierly and Hutchison Associates, brought the council up to date on the water plant project. Younger mentioned that they are working on utilizing existing pipes and shared the contractor is used to doing this and Severy is getting a good foreman.
The 2023 Eureka Junior/ Senior High School (EJSHS) Homecoming King and Queen will be named in a ceremony on Friday, September 29, at 1:15 p.m., at EJSHS. The community is invited to attend.
Last Friday afternoon, Eureka City Administrator Lucas Herb-Mullin shared his letter of resignation, noting that his last official day would be Sunday, November 26, of this year.
On Monday, September 25, Commissioners heard an issue pertaining to Y60 Road near Fall River Lake.
The West Elk Patriots will kick off the 2023 Fall Homecoming celebration with a bonfire in the south parking lot on Thursday, September 28, at 8 p.m. Community members are welcome to come and show their school spirit. On Friday, September 29, at 3 p.m., the homecoming parade will take place on Wabash in front of Family Market. The West Elk Booster Club will begin serving its annual Tailgate Supper at 5:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., the West Elk Patriot football team will host the Mustangs of Flinthills. Finally, the homecoming ceremony and coronation will take place at the conclusion of the football game.
Hamilton senior Teagn Brinkmeyer and junior Ashlynn Nowell and Madison seniors Gannon Pyle and Makenna Engle were crowned as Hamilton and Madison Homecoming Royalty last Friday night, during a special halftime presentation.
The Verdigris Valley Foundation will be serving a biscuit and gravy breakfast on Saturday, September 23, at the Madison Sauder Center from 8 to 10 a.m. Proceeds from this event support the operation of the center and projects for the community.
