Howard City Council

Mayor Richard Clark called the Dec. 18, 2023 meeting of the Howard City Council to order at 7:30 p.m. with council members Martin Hunter, Derek Cookson and Gary Harrod present. Also present was Joanna Hunter. Council member Jerrad Pope was absent, and Erica Cordell arrived later during the meeting.

Moton by Harrod, seconded by M. Hunter to approve minutes of the Dec. 4, 2023 meeting. Carried 2-0, Cookson abstained.

Motion by Cookson, seconded by M. Harrod to approve payment of City bills for the amount of $16,876.54. Carried 3-0.

Motion by Harrod, seconded by M. Hunter, that the City Clerk pay any outstanding December bills before the January meeting for accounting purposes. Carried 3-0.

Motion by M. Hunter, seconded by Cookson to pay 2024 League of Kansas Municipalities membership $611.33. Carried 3-0.

Motion by Harrod, seconded by Cookson to approve the 2024 UCI pricing contract for drug testing and administration for $620. Carried 3-0.

Motion by Harrod, seconded by M. Hunter to approve 2024 CMB Consumption on Premises license for Connie Avalos DBA Sweet & Spicy. Carried 3-0.

Council member Cordell joined the meeting at 7:45 p.m. Other discussion included: Vehicle for city employee to test for CDL tabled; Property cleanup action tabled; Sewer enzyme maintenance to be researched by Clerk; Outhouses at lake to be inspected by councilmembers; Duplex property to be inspected by councilmembers; Alley culvert on Monroe to be added to work schedule.

Motion by Cordell, seconded by Cookson to adjourn. Carried 4-0. The meeting adjourned at 8:02 p.m.

The council also met for a routine meeting on Jan. 2. Their next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 15, at 7:30 p.m., at city hall.
