West Elk Homecoming Royalty was crowned last Friday night following a 72-0 win for the Patriot football team, with Evan Coble, son of Robert and Laurie Coble of Severy, being named King and Kodi Harshman, daughter of Stacy Harshman of Howard and Spencer Harshman of Elmdale, being named Queen. Other candidates included: for King, Martin Shipley, Tyler Moore and Christian Winter; and for Queen, Savannah Stroot, Makalia Gillespie and Chrissy Hare.
There is something in store for everyone with this year’s Sterling College Theatre season which will include three musicals, an American literature classic, a new, unusual one-man play, an original student showcase; and a Shakespearean comedy with a Western twist. The slate of shows offers a wide variety and range of experiences for both the audience and the performers and technicians.
Mayor Richard Clark called the September 6 Howard City Council meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. with council members Martin Hunter, Derek Cookson, Erica Cordell, Gary Harrod and Jerrad Pope present. Also present was Clerk Joanna Hunter.
The four Greenwood County libraries – Fall River, Hamilton, Madison and Eureka – recently sponsored a bookmark design contest in four age categories. Participants were asked to design a bookmark showcasing something they love about Greenwood County and/ or its libraries. Design submissions were then judged by the Greenwood County Commissioners. Winning designs came from: Lincoln Treece, age 4, Eureka; Annabelle Boles, age 11, Madison; Sadie Seiter, age 13, Virgil; and Marilyn Cathey, age 19 and above, Eureka.
Several flu shot clinics are being planned during October for residents to take proactive measures, if they choose to participate.
