Tuesday, April 2, members of the Eureka Jr High Track Team participated at home, claiming hardware in various events. Three Tornado athletes also claimed school records.
Eureka varsity golf kicked off their season on Monday, March 25 with a cool and breezy 18-hole tournament in Caney.
On Monday, March 25, the West Elk Patriot baseball team hosted their season opener against Oxford. To kick off the game, former West Elk Baseball Coach Dana Taliaferro threw the ceremonial first pitch. Following the pitch, a special announcement was made by West Elk Assistant Principal Chris Haag, “Coach, we are not quite finished and would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for all that you have done for West Elk. Coach Taliaferro has been a tremendous teacher, athletic director and coach for many years. His commitment to his peers, students and players was demonstrated for over four decades at West Elk.
Eureka Lady Tornado head basketball coach Shelly Hoyt was listed as one of the finalists by Sports in Kansas for the 2A Girls Coach of the Year.

The Eureka Recreation Commission recently announced the schedules for the 2024 Outdoor Soccer Season. Games will begin Monday, April 18. Students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through Kindergarten will play games indoors at Marshall Elementary School, while students in grades first through sixth will play at the old High School lot, located between 4th and 5th Streets and Maple and Greenwood Streets, in Eureka.

Each March, scores of college hoops fans anxiously anticipate the tipoff to March Madness, which is a widely used nickname for the wildly popular NCAA Tournament, a single-elimination battle featuring 68 teams competing over seven rounds. Each team aspires to win the championship, but only one can walk away with the elusive trophy. That reality ups the ante with each game, and many a nail-biter and memorable moment has taken center stage during the tournament over the years.
Five Bulldogs of Madison and six West Elk Patriots were recently named to All-League selection teams for their efforts this season.
