No athlete, professional or amateur or otherwise, is immune from injury. Most athletes recognize the risk for injury is always present, but the thrill of competition and challenging oneself physically is enough to relegate injury concerns to the back burner.
Bulldog basketball played at home last Monday, Feb. 19 where they faced the Wichita Home School (WHS) Warriors.
The West Elk boys basketball team traveled to Central-Burden last week where they faced the Raiders in their final regular season match-up.
For the first time in school history, the West Elk Patriots were represented at the 4-1A Girls State Wrestling tournament. Patriot Senior Kayla Wright battled her way at the state tournament last week in Salina. She went 1-2 at the tournament and concluded her senior sea-son with a 22-9 overall record.
The Lady Patriots got off to a slow start offensively last Tuesday, Feb. 20 on the road, where they faced Central.
Seventeen members of the Eureka Wrestling Club (EWC) claimed hardware at the Iola Tournament. EWC’s Graham Bechtel, Elena McCoy and Brynlee Ashlock all were named champions. Jad Day, Kade Fisher, Carson Eismann, Brandon Cornett, Tate Scott and Cort Decker were named Runners- Up. EWC’s Oaklyn Smith, Tucker Williams, Jackson Hobbs, Xander Turner and Felix Neill placed third and Kaydenn Winn, Keon Jones and Adleigh Ray placed fourth.
The West Elk Patriots hosted CedarVale/Dexter last Friday where the Patriots walked away with both wins.
The Madison Bulldogs hosted the Tigers of Lyndon last Friday night, Feb. 16, for their annual Parent’s Night event.
Tornado freshman Mason Hughes claimed a fourth place finish at the Eureka 3-1A Regional Wrestling tournament last Saturday and punched his first ticket to the state tournament this Thursday-Saturday, in Salina.
