The end of July is upon us, which means... It’s Greenwood County Fair Week! This week is bound to be crammed full of events as area participants complete their exhibits for the annual event. Pre-fair events continued last Saturday with the annual horse show. Although there were fewer horses this year, the 4-Hers did great and the event was a success. Congratulations to Hannah Perrier and Jorja Beeman for receiving Grand Champion Gelding and Mare; and Hannah and Henry Perrier for earning high point horsemen in the senior and intermediate divisions.

As the temperatures climb into the 90s and above, most trees require more water, but more water means more costs. One helpful tip is to modify soaker hoses to save a few dollars. Soaker hoses are notorious for non-uniform watering. Meaning you often receive too much water from one part of the hose and not enough from the other part.

End Of Summer Learning Program At Hamilton City Library

The Hamilton City Library has one week left for their Summer Learning Program. Twenty-seven children took part in the “Adventures” this summer during June and July. The Story Time on Fridays included 10 Virtual Adventures in Kansas during the eight weeks. Library Director Beth Inwood told the kids about Topeka, Dodge City, Abilene, Atchinson, Victoria, Council Grove, Chanute, Hutchinson, Goddard and Friday, July 26 Storytime at 11:30 a.m. will complete their journeys with West Mineral (Big Brutus). The library will have a guest, Annie Wilson, who will sing some of her songs about the prairie. The public is invited to join the children. After Wilson sings a few songs, the kids will listen and learn about Big Brutus. A book or two will be read which relates to the theme and more songs will be sung. Refreshments will be served to all kids and adults then Wilson will finish up with more songs.
