WELCA met Sept. 5 at the Eureka Christ Lutheran Church Bell Tower Room. In the absence of officers, Sue Erickson presided.
The Eureka businesswomen met on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at TNT Catering in Eureka. There were 16 members and 1 guest present. The guest was Eileen Kinzel, who was the business woman and program for the evening. Roll call was answered with, “Your favorite month of the summer and what you did that month.”
Member libraries in the Southeast Kansas Library System attended the System’s (SEKLS) annual board meeting held at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center SEK Impact Conference Center, located at 1500 W. 7th Street, in Chanute, on Sept. 6. The Board presented the System’s 2025 Budget and held the Revenue Neutral Rate and Budget Hearings prior to the board meeting. The meeting was part of a day of continuing education events, including keynote speaker Pam Hamilton of Hamilton Counseling and Consulting who presented “Stressed out, Burned Out and Looking for a Way Out?” Public, academic and school library staff, trustees and county appointees to the system board participated in roundtable discussions about timely topics, such as advocacy and training.
Greenwood County Hospital (GWCH) Auxiliary met for their monthly meeting on Sept. 9 in the hospital basement.

Members of the Eureka Fire and Greenwood County Fire Departments, along with community members gathered at the Eureka Fire Department station, in honor of Patriot Day at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Members walked to Greenwood County Hospital and back to the station, in full gear, in memory of those that lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
Eureka was well represented at the Girard Invitational at Greenbush on Thursday, Sept. 12, with seven finishing in the top 10 in their races.
The Madison Bulldogs claimed a 46-0 victory over Hartford, at halftime, last Friday, Sept. 13.
West Elk’s football team claimed a 52-38 victory over Oxford on Friday, Sept. 13, to move to 2-0 for the season.
