Thelbert M. Trimmell, 88, passed away peacefully at home with family on Sunday, November 5, 2023. Bert, as he was known by many, was born in rural Greenwood County on February 8, 1935, to Luther “Big Boy” and Thelma (Ware) Trimmell. Bert often jokingly claimed he was born on a snowplow enroute to the hospital. He was raised on a farm/ranch near Coyville, and graduated from Coyville High School in 1952. He and his three brothers often rode horses to school and were known for having some of the finest horseflesh in the area. In high school he played on the basketball team, which led to a lifelong love of basketball, baseball, football, and other sports, both as a participant and fan. Coyville High is also where he met his future wife, Marilyn Haun. They were married on October 1, 1955, and started a family soon after with daughters Janice, Brenda, and son Ron.
Here we are already in the 11th month of 2023. This year has had a lot of hurdles; but, yet it seems to have flown by. As a child, I remember hearing “the older you get the faster it goes” and that seems to be true. The balancing act continues and notes are vital. It seems that although I didn’t need lists in the past to remember all the things; after turning 40 this year it is a necessity. I apologize for not getting to all the things. Time may not have allowed, or I simply didn’t get the reminder to the note.

Lately, I have been thinking about the role anticipation plays in life. I suppose my thoughts have been one dimensional because I was only considering the anticipation of joy. I have no doubt pleasure is more fun to think about than pain, than being fearful.
