In honor of Constitution Week and the 237th anniversary of the drafting of the United States Constitution, a proclamation was presented before members of the Eureka City Council on Monday, Sept. 9.
Provision of stronger auditory storm alerts has been an ongoing subject of consideration by the Hamilton City Council. During their regular meeting held on Tuesday, Sept. 10, members of the council delved further into the subject, reviewing an opportunity to purchase a siren which was refurbished locally.
The Greenwood County Historical Society Board met on Tuesday, Sept. 10, to discuss and vote on the Claycomb School relocation project. The school, located in the northwest part of Greenwood County, would be moved into Eureka and placed on the property directly west of the museum. The board voted to move forward with the project. More information on this project will be coming out in The Eureka Herald, the museum website and fliers in the near future.
The Greenwood County Historical Society will host “Kansas Legends and Folktales,” a presentation and discussion by Jim Hoy on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Greenwood County Museum, 120 W. 4th Street, in Eureka. Anyone thinking about seeking help for addiction should know that they are not alone. The 2022 United States National Survey on Drug Use and Health indicates 46.8 million Americans age 12 and older battled a substance use disorder in the previous 12 months. In addition, 10.5 percent of Americans 12 and older had an alcohol use disorder in the past year.
During the 2024 Severy Labor Day parade, the Elk County Community Foundation (ECCF) presented checks to three Severy groups. The funds were raised during the 2024 ECCF match event, which ran from May 10 to June 10, and raised over $133,000 in funds. The Patterson Family Foundation provided an additional $70,000 in matching funds, leaving ECCF with over $200,000 to grant out to organizations in Elk County and Severy.
