During a special assembly last Friday afternoon, seniors Trayton Carl Biering, son of Josh and Lexie Biering of Eureka and Lyndsey Escareno, daughter of Brandon and Sara Escareno of Eureka, were named as the 2023 Eureka High School Homecoming King and Queen.

Class Of 1974 Attended Homecoming Festivities

In honor of the 50th Class reunion, the Eureka High School Class of 1974 gathered for the annual Homecoming festivities. Members of the Class of 1974 are pictures above. From left to right: front row, Teresa (Norris) Smith, Debra (Buckle) Morgan, Heidi Surber, Peggy Knudsen Marlar, Kathy L. Murphy, Richard English and Bradley Grooms; middle row, Melinda (Culler) Nichols, Connie (Doeden) Mitchell, Jane (Hobbs) Peavy and Merle Burtin; and back row, Mike Johnson, Daryl Burnham, Gary Suse, Craig Moots and Rusty Booth. The Class of 1974 met in the Tornado Activity Center (TAC) for lunch before attending the ceremony and riding in a float for the annual parade. They then attended the annual homecoming football game. Members of the Class of 1974, as well as other alumni and community members met at Eureka Downs on Friday and Saturday for special Homecoming festivities, hosted by the Eureka Alumni Association.

GWPS Selected By ECF For Match Day Program
GWPS Selected By ECF For Match Day Program

The Greenwood Preservation Society (GWPS) announced recently that, through a grant process, it has been selected by the Emporia Community Foundation (ECF) as one of 35 organizations to be part of its Match Day program. Donations will assist in raising funds to finish restoration of the original rolled steel windows on Eureka’s Memorial Hall building.

Named Homecoming Royalty

West Elk Homecoming Royalty was crowned last Friday night following a 72-0 win for the Patriot football team, with Evan Coble, son of Robert and Laurie Coble of Severy, being named King and Kodi Harshman, daughter of Stacy Harshman of Howard and Spencer Harshman of Elmdale, being named Queen. Other candidates included: for King, Martin Shipley, Tyler Moore and Christian Winter; and for Queen, Savannah Stroot, Makalia Gillespie and Chrissy Hare.
