Volunteers/Donations Being Sought For New Monthly Senior Meal

In an effort to serve the elders of the Eureka area, organizers of the “Senior Soup Social” are working towards offering a monthly meal and activities to area residents 55 and over.

In an effort to serve the elders of the Eureka area, organizers of the “Senior Soup Social” are working towards offering a monthly meal and activities to area residents 55 and over.

The first meal, spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread and dessert, will be served on Friday, October 13. Organizers are hoping to have volunteers to assist with the meal and possibly deliver for those unable to attend the event. The Senior Soup Social will meet on the second Friday of each month, with a meal being served from 5-6 p.m. and an activity following from 6-7 p.m. Those attending can come for both the meal and activity or just one of the two. The activity for the first event will be a “meet and greet.” Organizers are hopeful to hear from those in attendance and base the activities from their feedback.

“We want to bring comfort and togetherness back to the community,” stated organizer Lela Day. Day, along with Claudia Deeder, Laura Bartholomew, Marissa Day and Rita Day, saw a need and started putting ideas together.

Those in attendance will be entered in a drawing for a door prize at the monthly events.

The Senior Soup Social is partnering with the Harvest House, in Severy, to assist with meal preparations.

With the new group looking to continue monthly events, free will donations are welcome at the door. Monetary donations can also be sent to: Senior Soup Social, c/o The Eureka Herald, PO Box 590, Eureka, KS 67045. Checks should be made payable to Senior Soup Social.

For additional information or to request a meal/ride call/text 316304-3892 or email seniorsoupsocial@ gmail.com. (Delivery/transportation will be available as volunteers are available).
