The month of January has been home to many historical events over the years. Here’s a look at some that helped to shape the world in January 1924.

The East Central Kansas Model T Ford Club (ECKMT)will meet at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 9 in the conference room of the Burlington Library. The library is located on Highway 75 in Burlington. The Club will provide the dinner meat, Cheesy Potato Soup and drinks. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a side dish to share with the meal which will be eaten before the meeting.

Prayers were answered and Christmas wishes were granted as Mother Nature let moisture fall day after day last week. Area residents found ponds, creeks and area lakes to be full just in time for the Christmas holiday.

On Wednesday, Jan. 24, The Greenwood County Hospital (GWCH) will be offering a Youth Mental Health First Aid Training opportunity.

Last November, Eureka residents saw a new gateway erected over Main Street just north of River Street. The gateway was just a portion of the Strategic Economic Expansion and Development (SEED) grant awarded to the City of Eureka for directional signage project.

This next week, students at Eureka Junior/Senior High School (EJSHS) will participate in winter royalty festivities. “Once Upon A Winter Royalty” is the theme for this year’s event. Each day the students will have a different Disney theme to follow. The days of the week for next week are as follows: Monday: Sleeping Beauty, pajama day; Tuesday: Monsters U, wear your college gear; Wednesday: Moana, wear tropical/Hawaiian; Thursday: Beauty and the Beast, rhyme without a reason, dress in pairs; Friday: Captain America, wear red, white and blue. Students at Marshall Elementary School are also encouraged to participate in the dress-up days listed above.
