I have been fascinated by the direct-to-consumer model of selling products from the farm since 2011. I learned the concept after asking a person at an agricultural conference to explain the sign, “A Kansas Farmer Feeds 155 people plus you”, since I had never purchased any food directly from a farm or ranch.

We are in the midst of meal prep time for the holidays and serving platters of safely prepared food to family and friends is important for good health. The best tip out there is to keep cold foods cold, and hot foods hot.
It’s often easier said than done, but a persons healthy living and improvement of quality of life can be summed up in three small phrases. The 3 B’s you could say. Build a better meal, boost your physical activity, and balance stress. Doing all three can be difficult but doing all three also is important and they all affect our health. They provide a valuable road map for people heading into holidays or considering a New Year’s resolution.

Eating a salad full of stems would be considered less than palatable by most people. Similarly, cattle offered corn stalks in place of hay will not find those as an attractive meal option.
