Most of us are able to identify poison ivy without much debate, but a little refresher never hurt anyone as it grows in multiple forms with varying leaf appearances. The three varieties include erect woody shrub, climbing wood vine and groundcover. In the vining habit, aerial roots give the vines a fuzzy, rope-like appearance. As a groundcover, poison ivy is often confused with Virginia creeper or Woodbine. These poison ivy shrubs appear in fields, pastures, woods or even the home garden.

What an amazing village we have. I am blessed to be a part of the Eureka community and again witnessed great things on Friday, during the annual Senior Day assembly. Community members gathered and, through the generous donations of many, provided approximately $342,000 to the Class of 2024. This doesn’t include scholarships provided by colleges or other scholarships gifted outside the community assembly. To mask on the greatness of our community some more, I attended another school’s graduation over the weekend where they announced that the 261 students graduating received $23,000 in scholarships. Our Senior Day assembly continues to grow and our youth are solely the beneficiaries.
