The Fall River City Council meets monthly on the second Monday at 7 p.m. The following article was created using the official minutes of the May 13 Fall River City Council meeting, which were approved during their June 17 meeting.

Kansas Department of Transportation announces approved bids for state highway construction and maintenance projects. The letting took place June 20, 2024, in Topeka. Some of the bids may include multiple projects that have been bundled based on proximity and type of work.

The Eureka Saddle Club had their second Shodeo on Saturday, July 13.

On Monday, July 8, Eureka City Administrator Joel Laws advised members of the city council that Eureka was not one of the award recipients for funding through the KDOT Cost Share grant applied for. There were 71 applicants and 14 of those were funded. Other funding resources are being looked at to aid in extending budgeted dollars for street projects.

The City of Eureka has announced intentions of applying for additional funding under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Home Rehabilitation/ Neighborhood Development project. This funding is crucial for needed street repairs in the community.

The Severy City Council met for routine business on Monday, July 1, where they learned that issues continue with the city’s sewer system as residents flush items that routinely clog the pumps.

With a unanimous decision, the Greenwood County Republican Committee (comprised of Republican precinct committeemen and committeewomen) voted to appoint Deann McCaffree to fill the position of Greenwood County Clerk following the resignation of former Clerk Kathy Robison. The special appointment was made on Tuesday, July 2. McCaffree has been serving as interim clerk since Robison’s resignation last month.

The annual Farmers Market will be held at a new location this year. Beginning this Saturday, July 20, local vendors will set up weekly at 701 East River Street in Eureka. Open Saturday mornings at 7:30 a.m., the market will feature fresh produce and much more including jams, jellies, crafts and baked goods.
