Junior High Tornado basketball competed at Galesburg last Thursday, Jan. 12 A-team girls went 8-0 with Galesburg in the first quarter. Despite the Timberwolves’ work to reduce the deficit, Eureka held onto their lead, going 10-6 into the half. The Tornadoes knocked down 5 shots to tally 11 points in the third quarter. Eureka claimed the win, 21-14. Scoring for the Tornadoes were: Karsyn Osborne 5; Sydney Lindamood, Annabell Bogle and Jersey Cox with 4 points each; Lylly Stapleford and Arabella Shepherd each with 2.
The West Elk Patriots hosted Argonia last Friday night, Jan. 12, where the Patriots claimed both wins over the Raiders.

Madison Bulldog basketball teams made the short trip to Olpe last Friday night, Jan. 12, to take on the Eagles.
The West Elk Patriot wrestling team traveled to Wellsville on Thursday, Jan. 11, where three Patriots claimed hardware at the annual Aaron Patton Memorial. Senior Kayla Wright placed second. Senior Evan Coble and junior Creyo Koop placed first.

Following the 2023 local election and with the start of a new term, Mayor Dave Harris and Councilman Larry Walford were sworn in for continued service to the City of Hamilton. Christopher Ray was appointed to fill the vacant council seat. Ray had previously been appointed to fill the remainder of a term last year and had been serving on the council through the conclusion of 2023.
