St. Paddy’s Day has come and gone and when you read this, the first day of spring has passed. Up next is Palm Sunday then Easter Sunday followed by April Fool’s Day. This year is going by fast so far.
March is Women’s History Month and Sterling College Concert Choir will be celebrating with their concert “Music, She Wrote” which is slated for this Sunday, March 24 at 7 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Sterling. Besides Concert Choir, the program will feature select ensemble Highland Singers as well as SC Lasses (women’s choir) and SC Lads (men’s choir).
Debt continues to be a major concern for households across North America. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York Center for Microeconomic Data found total household debt reached $17.29 trillion in the third quarter of 2023 in the United States. This upward trajectory has been going on since 2021 and is largely driven by mortgages, credit cards and student loan balances.
The family of Virgil L. Stuber, Jr. is requesting a card shower in honor of his 90th birthday. A celebration will be held at the Greenwood Hotel on March 23 from 2-4 p.m.
The Eureka Garden Club met Friday, March 1 at the TNT Catering building in Eureka for lunch. Vice President Ann Coon called the meeting to order after lunch. Coon expressed appreciation to Carol Ann Flock for serving as hostess.

The West Elk Junior High Patriots held a short wrestling season last month, going to four tournaments in a week’s time.
The Kansas Department of Transportation encourages counties, cities, towns, transit agencies, metropolitan planning organizations and federally recognized Tribal governments to apply for the U.S. DOT Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) discretionary grant program. The SS4A program provides an opportunity to leverage federal and state funding to support planning, infrastructure, behavioral and operational initiatives to prevent death and serious injury on roads and streets.
College basketball fans have it made each March. Come March, scores of college hoops fans anxiously anticipate the tipoff to March Madness, which is a widely used nickname for the wildly popular NCAA Tournament, a single-elimination battle featuring 68 teams competing over seven rounds. Each team aspires to win the championship, but only one can walk away with the elusive trophy. That reality ups the ante with each game, and many a nail-biter and memorable moment has taken center stage during the tournament over the years.
