President Mike Mallek called the March 13 Hamilton USD 390 meeting to order at 7 p.m. Other board members present included Stuart Woodie, Dee Elliott, Brad Martin, Kara Nutsch and Shannon Spradlin. Others attending were Superintendent Mike Ronen, Principal Stephanie Nelson and Clerk Claudia Deeder. Lisa Ballard attended remotely.
Mayor Richard Clark called the March 4 Howard City Council meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. with council members Martin Hunter, Shilo Crupper, Derek Cookson, Gary Harrod and Jerrad Pope present. Also present was Ian Denton, Danny Banks, Sarah Evans and Joanna Hunter.
The Greenwood County Cattlemen’s Association (GCCA) held its annual membership meeting on the evening of March 5, at the Eureka United Methodist Church. Following a meal provided by the Eureka Methodist Women, members heard an update on the 2024 Symphony in the Flint Hills (SFH) (to be held in northwest Greenwood County) from SFH board president, Mike Collinge and SFH Volunteer Coordinator, Jeanna Beeman. The evening’s featured speaker was Kansas Department of Agriculture’s (KDA) Agri-Business Coordinator, Tessa Beeman. A 2019 graduate of Olpe High School, T. Beeman shared information on several of KDA’s programs for producers, then presented a slideshow of her 2023 exchange tour of several Mexican beef facilities.
The Eureka businesswomen met on Tuesday, March 5, at the Greenwood County Hospital basement meeting room. There were 11 members and one guest present. The guest was Ashleigh Casper, who was the business woman of the month and program for the evening. Roll call was answered by, “Is anybody going to do anything for Spring Break or this spring?”
Only 380 ballots were cast in Greenwood County during the 2024 Greenwood County Presidential Primary, on Tuesday, March 19, with President Biden winning the Democratic ticket and former President Trump winning the Republican ticket.
The crucifixion of Christ 2024 years ago will be remembered during Holy Week with special services being observed by the local churches. Easter is Sunday, March 31.
