Among those recognized in service anniversaries The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) recognized employees celebrating state service anniversaries in August. KDOT acknowledged the long-term dedication these individuals have provided to the State of Kansas. Jeffrey Marks, Highway Maintenance Supervisor, of Eureka, was among those recognized. Marks celebrates 25 years with KDOT.
TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly signed a proclamation yesterday honoring the 50th anniversary of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) in Kansas. Since the WIC program was first introduced in 1974, it has helped Kansas families access healthy, nutritional foods to better support the development of their children.
The world is treated to a sports-related spectacle every four summers and in 2024 the celebration of competition and competitors known as the Summer Olympics returns in Paris. Athletes from across the globe have gathered in France to compete for their home countries this summer and fans are turning in to see who takes home the gold in a variety of sports.
PRCA Rodeo action will once again be in Eureka next weekend, Friday, Aug. 16 and Saturday, Aug. 17. Gates will open at 6 p.m. both nights, with Mutton Bustin’ for ages 6 and under beginning at 7 p.m. Sign up will be on the south side of the concession stand and participation is limited to the first 20 riders. Rodeo performances will begin at 8 p.m. both nights.

s Students will be returning to the classrooms in the coming weeks as the 2024 25 school year is upon us.
Enrollment for Eureka USD 389 will be held on Thursday, Aug. 8. Students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade 6 can visit Marshall Elementary School, located at 1015 N. Jefferson, while enrollment for grades 7 through 12 will be held at Eureka Junior/Senior High School (815 N. Jefferson). Both schools will hold enrollment from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
After 35 years of service with the Howard Volunteer Fire Department (HVFD), Danny Signer retired as Chief of HVFD earlier this summer.
