County Commissioners Held Regular Meeting

Interim Road and Bridge Supervisor John Schouten provided his report to Greenwood County Commissioners on Monday, October 30, first sharing that one bid had been received for approaches to Baker’s bridge and the department is waiting for the receipt of additional. Schouten told commissioners that an issue had been experienced with another grader Monday morning. After noting he was unsure what was wrong with the machine yet, Schouten explained that the operator had put it in gear and it didn’t want to move. Schouten will be looking into this. Employment verification for Justin Jones for the Road and Bridge Department was presented and approved for $15.50 an hour. Schouten told commissioners that the department would be working on grading and fixing road conditions this week. In regards to a bridge on CC Road approximately a mile from the Hamilton/Virgil Road, Schouten reported that crew members would be addressing a hole in the bridge.

Eureka City Council Approved Candidate For WardTwo Seat

Three community members were present last Monday, October 24 after having submitted interest in serving in the vacant Ward 2 city council position. All three were allotted the opportunity to speak, before council members brought potential selection to the floor. Appreciation was expressed to all three candidates for their interest in serving the community. Councilman Jeff Marks abstained from voting on this item. Members of the council approved Dan Campbell filling the vacancy. During his address, Campbell shared that he had lived in Eureka for approximately 2 and a half years, had retired in December from his career as a financial adviser and shared that he would like to lend support to the city. Campbell will join the council during the next regular meeting.
