Larry Dean Wilson
He was born on June 21, 1942, in El Dorado.
His journey as a jockey began in the 1960s, a career that spanned several decades and saw him racing at tracks across Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona. Notable achievements in his racing career include a ride on Miss Three Wars in 1969, securing a second-place finish at the All-American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs. In 1972, Wilson won six races in a single day at the Centennial Race Track in Denver. At the time, he was second leading quarter horse rider in the nation.
Beyond riding races, Wilson also served as a trainer and mentor. His career included serving as an Outrider at Eureka Downs, The Woodlands, The Downs at Albuquerque, N.M. and Santa Fe, N.M. ensuring the safety and integrity of the races.
Wilson is survived by his wife, Anne Wilson; son, Justin Wilson; daughter, Amy Eldridge; six grandchildren and sister, Karen.
