Clare A. Platt, a cherished husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2024, in Kansas City, Kan., at the age of 85. Born on Aug. 12, 1938, in Toronto, Clare was known for his quick wit, thoughtful nature, and selfless demeanor. Throughout his life, Clare dedicated 55 years of service to the Janesville Township, where he expertly operated a variety of heavy machinery, including dump trucks and road graders. His commitment to his work was surpassed only by his dedication as the Caretaker of the Janesville Cemetery, a role he performed with honor and diligence right up to his final days.

Clare’s passion for the outdoors was evident in his love for hunting and fishing. He was also a skilled craftsman, taking joy in building fishing poles, constructing intricate model cars, and engaging in various woodworking projects. His hobbies were a testament to his patience and attention to detail, qualities that he applied to every aspect of his life. He also coached baseball and served as an assistant scout master.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon (Edwards) Platt; his sons, Greg Platt (Sandy), Kyle Platt (Kelly Sage) and Brett Platt (Lynn); his grandson, Paul Platt; step-grandsons, Justin Allen and Nick Riggs; and brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Dorothy Platt, Jim Platt, and Preston and Nance Platt. Clare’s legacy of love and laughter will live on through his family and all who knew him.

Clare was preceded in death by his father, Clare Platt Sr.; mother, Annetta (McCoy) Platt; stepmother, Laverne Platt; father-in-law, George Edwards; mother- in-law, Vera Edwards; brothers, Jerry Platt, Jack Platt, and Clyde Platt; aunt and uncle Zelma and Harry Lange; and his granddaughter, Emily Platt.

Clare’s life was one of unwavering service, boundless enthusiasm for his interests, and an enduring commitment to his family. His memory will be treasured and kept alive in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to experience his humor, kindness, and generosity. Clare will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hamilton Community Center. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of Clare Platt.
