Rev. Lloyd Thomas Stewart of Eureka, died on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, at the age of 92.

He was born August 11, 1931, in Monroe County, Indiana, the son of William Ray and Goldie Elizabeth (Swafford) Stewart. He was raised in Indiana and graduated from local schools. After his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and went to basic training at Camp Perrin, Texas. It was there that he met his future wife, Genie.

On June 4, 1954, Lloyd was united in marriage to Carrol Imogene “Genie” Burch, in Texas. The couple made their home in Springfield, Missouri, as Lloyd attended the Baptist Bible College. To this union, two children were born.

After completing his degree, the family moved throughout Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas while Lloyd was pastoring. He served in Parsons, Anadarko, Okla., Hobart, Okla., Lawton, Okla. and Smithville, Mo. In 1978, the family moved to Eureka, where Lloyd became the Pastor of the Bible Baptist Church, a position he held for 35 years, retiring in 2013. In all, Lloyd was a Pastor for 56 years. Besides his ministry, Lloyd also worked a variety of odd jobs in the different places they lived including as a CNA, hardware store clerk, funeral home assistant, and Wichita Eagle delivery driver.

Lloyd will be remembered especially for his musical talent. He wrote and recorded several songs and was able to play a variety of instruments. He loved fishing and always had a freezer stocked with fish. Part of ministry brought him to Mexico and Haiti where he did ventriloquism, spreading the gospel with his dummy, Jerry. Lloyd truly dedicated his life to Jesus.

Lloyd was a member of VFW Post 2712. He is survived by one son, Greg and wife, Lois Stewart of Eureka; two grandsons: Wesley and wife, Julie Stewart of Burns; and Justin Stewart of Eureka; and three great-grandchildren: Dezmond, Raelyn, and Jerrik. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Genie; one son, Randall Ray Stewart; and two siblings: William Ransom “Bill” Stewart and Katherine May Wright.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2023, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Russell Judd of the Bible Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka.
