The Susannah French Putney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held their monthly meeting at the Butler County Historical Society in El Dorado, at 12:15 p.m., on Dec. 15, 2023.

The group recited the Preamble to the Constitution, DAR Ritual, Pledge of Allegiance, American Creed and sang the Star Spangled Banner. Chaplain Ann Wimberly shared the devotion.

Special guest, Keylee Faudere, was introduced by member Janet Green, chairman for the Good Citizen Award Committee. Miss Faudere’s essay was chosen as the area winner and she and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Faudere, were special guests that afternoon. K. Faudere read her essay aloud for the group and in her writing, she responded to the focus question “What are the civic responsibilities of a good citizen and why are these duties, activities and behaviors important to the shaping of the America you hope to experience?”

K. Faudere was awarded a Good Citizen Pin, card and check from the chapter. Her essay will be forwarded to the state competition. “We are proud to have such an accomplished young woman representing our chapter. Keylee is an outstanding senior student at El Dorado High School with a 4.0 GPA, three sport athlete, state qualifier in Track and Field, and involved in numerous service clubs. Keylee is serving as an apprentice at the Sedgwick County Zoo and involved in El Dorado Dance Center and Ballet Wichita. She would like to pursue a career as a zoo veterinarian and minor in art,” stated Carla Cook, on behalf of the group.

What would your response have been to the above focus question? Give it some thought, both from a historical perspective as well as considering how being a good citizen can impact what is going on in our country today. America will soon be 250 years old. What things can we do now to keep our country healthy for the next 250 years?

The program for the afternoon was Christmas and sing-along music provided by Joy Pulver and Teresa Bachman. This has become a much enjoyed tradition.

The next meeting will be held in El Dorado at the Butler County Historical Society, at 1 p.m. on Fri., Jan. 19. Guests are welcome.

Members in attendance included Bachman, Sue Ann Brown, Sigrid Denchfield, Sue Flowers, Patty Goedecke, Nancy Gordon, Green, Jean Groendes, Loria Howard, Sharon Mc-Clure, Martha Riedl, Nita Whiteman and Wimberly.
