Escareno Placed Second At LadyCat Invitational

Three Lady Tornado wrestlers battled at the 7th annual Burlington LadyCat Invitational last Saturday, where freshman Maela Neill and sophomore Harlie Owings placed fifth and senior Lyndsey Escareno placed second.

Three Lady Tornado wrestlers battled at the 7th annual Burlington LadyCat Invitational last Saturday, where freshman Maela Neill and sophomore Harlie Owings placed fifth and senior Lyndsey Escareno placed second.

Following are the individual match results for Eureka participants: 125: Maela Neill (14-6) placed 5th. She received a bye; won by fall over Mckenna Harris (Silver Lake HS) 12-10 (Fall 3:03); lost by fall to Brooklyn Burenheide (St. George-Rock Creek HS) 17-0 (Fall 1:06); lost by fall to Amara Dossett (McPherson HS) 4-6; and won by fall over Mckenna Harris (Silver Lake HS) 12-10 (Fall 0:56).

140: Lyndsey Escareno (3-2) placed 2nd. She won by fall over Kenedi Redden (Coffeyville-Field Kindley HS) 2-4 (Fall 1:51); won a 9-8 decision over Gabby Roth (St. George-Rock Creek HS) 16-5; and lost by fall to Nora Prather (Baldwin HS) 18-0 (Fall 1:31).

190: Harlie Owings (137) placed 5th. She won by fall over Heidi Fairchild (McPherson HS) 5-9 (Fall 3:04); won by fall over Kayleigh Latimer (Richmond- Central Heights HS) 3-5 (Fall 0:46); lost by fall to Johanna Carrasco (Burlington HS) 16-3 (Fall 1:09); lost by fall to Cecelia Lynch (St. GeorgeRock Creek HS) 17-5 (Fall 1:23); and won by fall over KayLee Felton (Indepen- dence HS) 5-8 (Fall 3:44).

The Lady Tornadoes are slated to travel to Newton on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 3 p.m., and to Leon on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 3 p.m., before hosting their annual junior varsity mixer on Jan. 19 and annual tournament on Jan. 20.
