Members of the Eureka Fire Department (EFD) gathered for a Christmas party on Dec. 18, 2023, where two volunteer firefighters were presented with special awards.
EFD Chief Luke Westerman presented Jason Brandt an award for being the firefighter to respond to the most calls and presented Jordan Ring an award for attending 100% of the EFD meetings.
“We have a strong group of dedicated volunteers who give their time and service to the community all hours of the day,” stated Chief Westerman. “We are lucky to have nearly 30 volunteers currently who are willing to serve in this capacity,” he continued.
During 2023, EFD was dispatched to 47 incidents and averaged an en route time of three minutes. “The call volume is down from previous years, due to residents following fire prevention activities,” stated Chief Westerman. The average yearly number of incidents is 70.
The meal for the volunteer firefighters and their significant others was provided by B.E. Mowing and Tree Service.
