On Wednesday, Jan. 24, The Greenwood County Hospital (GWCH) will be offering a Youth Mental Health First Aid Training opportunity.

Training will begin at 8 a.m. in the GWCH basement and is anticipated to conclude at approximately 4 p.m. Cost of fees and materials associated with the course are covered through DCCCA grant funding.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training teaches those who attend how to identify, understand and respond to the signs of mental health and substance use challenges in adolescents ages 12-18. The training will cover: Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in this age group including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD); Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges; how to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis; how to connect youth with help and expanded content on trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying.

Training is recommended for: teachers, parents/ guardians, coaches/staff, camp counselors, youth group leaders and any adults who work with youth.
