We may not have gotten a white Christmas, but we did get something everyone wanted and that is rain! I heard tell of amounts between 1.25 - 1.75 inches. I know everything is saturated and Cedar Creek was flowing Sunday morning!

We hope y’all had a very Merry Christmas. My dad, Robert Cummings, came over Friday and had lunch with us and visited for awhile.

Our granddaughter, Emmy, her husband David Goldsmith and three kids Korbin, Braelynn and Brinlie all of Emporia along with Emmy’s mom, Carla Ogle of Felt, Okla. came by and visited with us on Sunday.

After visiting with us for awhile they went across town to their other grandma, Marilyn Jones’ for a visit.

Can you name the 27th letter of the alphabet?

There was a really nice turnout for the Toronto United Methodist Church Candlelight Service Sunday evening, with 50+ people in attendance.

Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers. We offer our sympathy to all who lost loved ones this past week. May they all rest in peace.

Answer: Well, of course not; there are only 26 letters in the alphabet. However, there was once a time when the alphabet boasted an additional character, the ampersand, commonly denoted as ‘&,’ and it was considered a part of the alphabet until the middle of the 19th century. Today, it primarily appears in company names such as H&R Block or Ben & Jerry’s. When the ampersand was part of the alphabet, it followed ‘Z’. When reciting the alphabet, children would say, “X, Y, Z, and per se and,” which meant that “and” was the way to pronounce “&.” This phrase was eventually shortened to “ampersand.”

New Year’s Eve and Day has now come and gone. I hope everyone had a designated driver or stayed the night where they went to party. Most importantly, I hope everyone had a safe and fun New Year’s eve.

Wade, me and Punky wish y’all a Happy and healthy New Year!
