With the help of donations, Marshall Elementary now has a 10’ x 16’ x 8’ greenhouse for Eureka USD 389 students to utilize during the fall and spring months.
Tori Melton, a fourth grade teacher at Marshall Elementary, presented details to the Eureka USD 389 board of education during their routine monthly meeting on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023. Melton shared that her grandparents were looking to part with a frame they had previously used as a shed. Melton provided an estimate for the greenhouse, which totaled approximately $380 before shipping/handling. The estimate included greenhouse plastic, repair tape, air vent turbine, water hose, water nozzle and screenings. Melton had already acquired donations for weed barrier, carpet for a walking path, pots, soil, watering can, wood for door frame and shelves, cinder blocks to secure the frame and plastic and stakes/fence post.
The board was in favor of bringing the project to life and gave Melton the go-ahead. It was noted that they would utilize the new greenhouse for various projects/lessons throughout grade levels within USD 389.
It was shared that at the end of 2022-23 school year, community member Kevin Hough donated funds for a portable AED. The AED has arrived and will go with sports teams throughout the year.
Following a five minute executive session, for potential employments, the board approved to hire Faith Harber and M. J. Huffman as EJSHS paras; Alyssa Boles, Ryleigh Smalley, Nicola Jordaan and Rhonda Ward, Marshall Elementary paras; Carolyn Bonfiglio, food service employee; James Bobey, full-time bus driver; Mindy Westerman, co-Stuco sponsor; and Elizabeth Burden, assistant junior high volleyball coach.
