Greenwood County Detective Jason Myers Named As Undersheriff

After serving as Greenwood County Detective for six years, Jason Myers earned a new title as he was named as Undersheriff of Greenwood County on Thursday, May 25, 2023. The appointment was made official on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, during the weekly meeting of the Greenwood County Commissioners. The position became open after former Undersheriff Randy Cox resigned from the role in February 2023.

After serving as Greenwood County Detective for six years, Jason Myers earned a new title as he was named as Undersheriff of Greenwood County on Thursday, May 25, 2023. The appointment was made official on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, during the weekly meeting of the Greenwood County Commissioners. The position became open after former Undersheriff Randy Cox resigned from the role in February 2023.

Undersheriff Myers began as a Deputy with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office (GWSO) in October 2010. Over the years, he has earned the distinction of K-9 Handler, Tactical Team Commander, Sergeant, Detective and most recently, Undersheriff.

Undersheriff Myers began his criminal justice career in 1999, when he served as a corrections officer in Montgomery County. Seven months later, he began as a corrections officer for the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC). While working for KDOC, he was appointed to the Special Security Team (SST), completed KDOC Special Operations Response Team (S.O.R.T.) certification, and was assigned as the facility SST transport/ escort team supervisor. In 2008, he completed KBI SWAT basic training.

Later in 2008, Undersheriff Myers completed two 12-month contracts, serving as a Force Protection Officer, in the Middle East. He completed the contract and returned home in October 2010; where he then began his career with the GWSO.

Over the last 13 years, Undersheriff Myers has conducted numerous longand short-term investigations into the illegal distribution of narcotics, including undercover operations, controlled buys and the service of multiple search warrants in Greenwood County, as well as other jurisdictions. He has also conducted numerous investigations into sexual crimes, burglaries and homicides.

From 2012-2016, Undersheriff Myers served as Commander of the GWSO High Risk Response Team (HRRT). He also holds certifications for Forensic Interviewer for child victims as well as A.L.I.C.E. Training instructor for active shooter/intruder response.

While at GWSO, Undersheriff Myers also obtained a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, with a focus on Homeland Security from Purdue University Global in May 2020.

Undersheriff Myers and his wife, Casandra, reside in southern Greenwood County. They have three children, Kaleb, Yvette and Destyni.
