Approved Base Bid For Water Plant • Breaking Ground Took Place June 2023

During their January monthly meeting, held on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023 the Severy City Council shared that they will be raising utility rates in the coming months.

Following two executive sessions, totaling 25 minutes, regarding the 2023 budget with legal counsel, Council President Marc Warren shared that the water delivery rate for both in town and out of town would be increasing by $5; refuse would be raised by $2 and the dumpster fee would be increasing by 33.3%. After Warren shared the increased amounts, council member Lyle Riggs shared, “This was a reaction of looking at our budget. It wasn’t just an off the cuff decision. I want people to understand where we are at.” Warren then noted the city hasn’t increased their rates in five years. Alleen VanBebber, legal counsel for the City of Severy, will draft the resolution noting the changes. Following publication in The Eureka Herald, the new rates took effect. The city plans for those rates to be in place prior to the March bill cycle.

Mike Younger, with EBH Engineering, provided various bids for the upcoming water plant. “It’s been a long journey, but we were able to get the bids in from the contractor on the water plant,” he stated. Younger presented the base bid, totaling $928,000.
