Heard Update On Progress To HVAC System

A special meeting of the Greenwood County Hospital (GWCH) Board of Trustees was called for Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023 at noon, to afford for approval of bills pertaining to the HVAC project that were pending payment.

Two bills were presented: one from Trane for the ongoing HVAC project (third installment) for the amount of $237,500 and the second bill from the State of Kansas for filing of the bond, for the amount of $225.

Hospital CEO Sandra Dickerson provided members of the board with an overview of ongoing work and items slated for completion throughout the coming weeks. Dickerson reported that lower boiler room demolition had been approximately 95% completed. A chiller barrel had to be tested for asbestos before being removed. As negative test samples were received, crews will finish removing the chiller barrel. Boiler generator piping and electrical have all been removed from the lower level. Crews will be pouring a new housekeeping pad -raised pad to elevate the boiler and generator and afford for slope/draining. Dickerson told board members present that the new boilers were anticipated for delivery that day (Dec. 28). These will be moved into the lower boiler room for installation. All other materials for the hot water system have been ordered and are slated to be delivered over the next 6 weeks. Chillers are expected for delivery in mid-June.

She then provided a rundown of work to be completed over the next couple of weeks including: completion of framing and pouring the housekeeping pads, frame and poor a new pad for ice storage tanks and cut concrete and repair existing pipe where it has broken in the past.

Following no questions, GWCH Board members approved the payment to the state and next approved the payment to Trane for the ongoing HVAC project.

Function of the system will not be disrupted as the facility transitions between old and new equipment.

Board member Kevin Hough was absent from the meeting and member Dee Elliot attended via Zoom.

The first GWCH meeting of 2024 will be held on Thursday, Jan. 25, at 5:30 p.m.
