With nearly 350 websites created for clients, Eureka’s Taylor Hunt was eager to assist Greenwood County with updating their website, a feat that was conquered earlier this fall.

During the spring of 2023, county officials reached out to Hunt in hopes of updating the website to make it more user friendly. Hunt, a web developer, photographer and cryptography enthusiast, did just that and the new site, https://www.greenwoodcounty. org, went live in October.

Hunt traveled Greenwood County, capturing videos of the area, and created a video that is featured on the home screen of the website. The video itself can be found on YouTube by searching “Greenwood County, Kansas by Air.”

Although Greenwood County has been a part of his life for 38 years, it has been home for 25 years, as the family resides northeast of Eureka. “I spent my summer youth traipsing through the Flint Hills on anything with wheels toting a fishing rod in one hand. The only thing that’s really changed is the addition of toting a camera and well, that “youth” part. Most weekends I’m still likely to be found atop an electric bike with a beat up camera, a fishing rod and a smile,” stated Hunt.

Hunt embarked on the tech industry in Eureka by simply “annoying” a former business owner in Ben Fox as Hunt spent time at Fox-Net on Main Street during his high school years. Since then, he has dev eloped web pages and been able to work on projects ranging from small non-profits to projects for some of the largest fortune 500 companies.

In 2012, he began RocketLab, the company he owns and continues to assist clients with webdesign, and in recent years began running FlintHills. photos, a website housing an ever-growing collection of photos taken in and around the Flint Hills that are 100% free for use for any project or media campaign without attribution needed. Those photos have now garnered more than 20 million views as well as tens-of-thousands of downloads around the world.

The newest creation by Hunt, the Greenwood County website, features department listings, contact information, county alert registration, events, election details and a business directory. Visit the website at www.green woodcounty.org (Courtesy photo)
