Tornado Basketball Suffered Loss To Top-Rated Independent

The Eureka High School boys closed the 2023 portion of their schedule with a 21-75 loss to the top-rated team in 2A, Wichita Independent in Wichita. The Tornadoes, while playing much better the last four games, took a step (or two) back, turning the ball over and being outplayed by the admittedly faster and more athletic squad from Wichita.

The Eureka High School boys closed the 2023 portion of their schedule with a 21-75 loss to the top-rated team in 2A, Wichita Independent in Wichita. The Tornadoes, while playing much better the last four games, took a step (or two) back, turning the ball over and being outplayed by the admittedly faster and more athletic squad from Wichita.

The Tornadoes opened the game with very cold shooting, hitting only 18% of their shots in the opening frame, on 2 of 11 shooting. The story was slightly better in the second quarter, where they made 3 of 11. They managed only 12 total shots in the entire second half due to turnovers, hitting only three of them. The Tornadoes were unable to handle the Independent press, finishing the game with a season high 29 turnovers, which was 43% of their total possessions. Scoring: Senior Lyle Perrier led the Tornadoes with 9 points, Junior Laken Valentine 6, freshman Tyson Coon 5 and senior Cole Adkins with one, rounded out the scoring for the Tornadoes.

The Tornadoes look to re-group over break before facing Fredonia on Friday, Jan. 5.
