Torrey And Everitt Recognized For Service During Final USD 389 Board Meeting

Two Eureka USD 389 board of education members were recognized on Monday, December 11, as they concluded their term of service. Brent Torrey served the board for 12 years and Judd Everitt served Eureka USD 389 for four years. Both were presented a plaque that read, “It’s in recognition of outstanding service as a USD 389 board member. Thank you for your dedicated leadership in public education and continuing service to the children of USD 389.”

Two Eureka USD 389 board of education members were recognized on Monday, December 11, as they concluded their term of service. Brent Torrey served the board for 12 years and Judd Everitt served Eureka USD 389 for four years. Both were presented a plaque that read, “It’s in recognition of outstanding service as a USD 389 board member. Thank you for your dedicated leadership in public education and continuing service to the children of USD 389.”

The remainder of the December monthly meeting was brief as administrators and guests shared updates at school facilities. Three Marshall Elementary (ME) students, Brystle Osborne, Bronwyn Hall and Brylee Perry, shared updates regarding various activities at the school, including field trips and assemblies and shared the district spelling bee would be held at ME on January 18. ME Principal Stacy Coulter later shared she believed the Greenwood County Spelling Bee would be held in early February. Coulter also stated that AIMS testing was being completed for the second quarter. Both kindergarten and first grade had completed the testing and showed significant improvements.

Eureka Junior/Senior High School Principal Angie Lowe also gave an administrative report, sharing updates on school happenings and activities. She also shared that through staff members paying to wear jeans during the month of December, EJSHS was able to adopt seven children through Emprise Bank’s Adopt-A-Child program.

The board approved Kansas Association of School Board (KASB) policies as presented.

Following a five minute executive session for personnel, with the board, administration and Clerk Tammi Burtin, the board approved the resignation of Ryleigh Smalley, ME paraprofessional and approved the employment of Taelyn Huffman, ME paraprofessional.
