After two days of jury trial last week, December 12 and 13, John Byron “JB” Cannon was found guilty of three counts of felony theft of cattle.

The case that originated in 2020 was investigated by Special Agent Jim Pinegar of the Livestock Investigation Unit of the Kansas Attorney General Office and the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office.

In a special press release, Greenwood County Attorney Jill Gillett said, “Cattle production is an inte-gral part of the Flint Hills and working to protect that within Greenwood County protects the long-term livelihood of the farmers and ranchers that work hard to produce cattle. Protecting the industry keeps income coming to the small towns we reside in.”

The Fredonia Livestock Auction cooperated to protect the integrity of cattle sales in Kansas.

Sentencing is scheduled for February 15, 2024.
