Eureka’s junior high basketball teams hosted Fredonia last Monday, December 11, winning three of their four matchups.
In the girls A-team game, Eureka started off strong with Arabella Shepherd managing 11 points in the first quarter, including three-three pointers. With two points from Annie Bogle, Eureka topped Fredonia 13-8 after the first quarter. Eureka managed just two points in the second quarter, compared to Fredonia’s 9, bringing the first half score to 1517. The teams went back and forth again in the second half, but with the help of Lylly Stapleford’s five point third quarter and Shepherd’s fourth three-pointer of the game, Eureka ended up on top with a final score of 29-27.
Scoring: Shepherd 14, Stapleford 5, Bogle 4 and Sydney Lindamood, Celona Hall and Jersey Cox all with 2.
The girls’ B-team went scoreless during both the first and third quarters against the Yellowjackets, which led to their 9-10 loss. Scoring: McKenna McDonald 5 and Winnie Brenckman-Welsh and Hall each with 2.
Eureka boys’ A-team started off strong as a team with five players combining for 10 points in the first quarter, while holding Fredonia to just one point. They ended the first half up 16-5. Eureka added 9 more points in the third quarter and 12 in the fourth, which included two three-pointers from Tate Scott. Fredonia managed to add 16 points in a fourth quarter rally, but it would not be enough to top Eureka. The Tornadoes won 3727.

In B-team action, Eureka scored 6 points in each the first and second quarters to end the first half up 12-7. While only scoring 2 points in the third quarter, Eureka broke away in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 points to win the game 25-17.
